Whitefish Point

Eleven miles northwest of Paradise is Whitefish Point, home to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Revisit the perilous maritime history of the Great Lakes in this haunting and artifact-filled museum, complete with the ship’s bell retrieved from the Edmund Fitzgerald. The museum sits alongside the Whitefish Point Lighthouse, an important structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the oldest operating lighthouse on Lake Superior. Tour the Surfboat house or spend a night in the restored Coast Guard Crew Quarters and immerse yourself in the history of The Inland Seashore. Also at the Point, visit the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory and learn about bird species that migrate through the region.
