Wetmore Fire Tower - Hiawatha National Forest
Towers were positioned on high areas in the region to allow panoramic views all around. Towers were equipped with an alidade, a map, and a radio. They were staffed throughout the spring and summer months with a tower man who spent his days and nights scanning the area for fires. If a fire was spotted, the tower man would use a map and alidade to locate the fire, and then use a radio to call in the location of the fire to the nearest CCC Camp.
At the intersection of M-28 and H-13 east of Munising drive south 1.1 miles on H-13. You will notice the tower on the right sight of the road.
