The place to be Saturday night will be Water Street in Sault Ste. MArie Michigan as The Great Race rolls into town with 80 antique cars. The cars range in age from 1911 to 1969, with most having been manufactured before World War II. Last year’s winner was the first 100-year-old car in the race – a 1911 Velie. A community party will be held in honor of The Great Race on the lawn of new City Hall 225 E. Portage Ave. Live Music, food vendors, and antique cars what better way to spend a Saturday night.

The first car is expected to arrive around 5 p.m. and another car will arrive each minute for the following hour and a half. The cars will remain parked on East Water Street to allow spectators to visit with the participants and to look at the cars. It is common for kids to climb in the cars for a first-hand look. The racers will stay the night and set off through Canada Sunday morning.
