Grand Sable Dunes

Located in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, the Grand Sable Dunes cover a five mile stretch between the Sable River and Au Sable point. These Dunes, left by enormous glaciers thousands of years ago, settle atop the 300-foot high Grand Sable Banks.

The Dunes show not only Mother Nature’s beauty but also the power she has to create something so incredible. Whether you’re at the drive-up overlook or along the base on the Lake Superior shoreline, the Dunes are great for long rugged hikes, serene summertime picnics or breathtaking photography. These magnificent marvels in Grand Marais show how truly unique the Upper Peninsula is.
