Great Waters to Share, Great Treasures to Protect.

Responsibly Sharing Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula

You may have heard of a Pure Michigan. Well, we’re here to tell you that the Eastern Upper Peninsula is as pure as it gets.
Sharing it is our livelihood, protecting it is our way of life.

Chapel Rock

Chapel Rock - found in the Chapel Basin area in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - is a remnant of Cambrian age sandstone that was carved by high water approximately 3,800 years ago. Continual erosion has sculpted this rock into the beautiful formation it is today. There once was an archway connecting the rock to the mainland but it collapsed in the 1940s. The lone white pine on Chapel Rock is estimated to be about 250 years old, according to the National Park Service website.

Fayette Historic State Park

Fayette Historic Townsite represents a once-bustling industrial community that manufactured charcoal pig iron between 1867 and 1891 at the tip of the Garden Peninsula. Visitors may walk through the well-preserved buildings that have been standing for 150 years and learn about life during the 19th century.
